Biography

Dr. Vijay Anand is a Pediatric Cardiac Intensivist at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, where he has been a member of the PCICU team for over a decade and serves as the unit’s Quality Improvement Lead. He earned his medical degree from the University of Manitoba after completing a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry at Queen’s University, and later obtained a Master’s degree in Healthcare Quality from George Washington University. His clinical practice focuses on the care of critically ill children with complex congenital and acquired heart disease, including specialized work with the Ventricular Assist Device and Pediatric Critical Care Transport teams.

Dr. Anand has a strong interest in quality improvement and health system innovation, with a focus on improving reliability in care, strengthening team culture, and designing systems that better support patients and providers. He has led and contributed to several major initiatives, including serving as Project Architect for the Stollery’s “Raising the Bar” transformation effort and as lead for StollerySTRIVE, a hospital-based app designed to support families of children with heart disease. He also serves as Medical Director of the Clinical Appropriateness team with Acute Care Alberta, reflecting his broader commitment to advancing quality and value across the healthcare system.
