Biography

Dr. Joseph Pagano completed his medical training at the University of Alberta School of Medicine and Dentistry. He went on to complete Residencies in Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology at the Stollery Children’s Hospital, and subsequently completed a Fellowship in Pediatric Cardiovascular MRI at the Hospital for Sick Children, in Toronto. He currently serves as a Pediatric Cardiologist at the Stollery and is the Service Director for the Pediatric Cardiology Inpatient Consultation Service. In addition to inpatient and outpatient consultations, his clinical activities include pediatric echocardiography and cardiovascular MRI. Dr. Pagano also provides outreach pediatric cardiology outpatient services in Yellowknife, to support our patients from NWT/NU.

 

In addition to Cardiology expertise, Dr. Pagano is recognized as an expert in Pediatric Cardiovascular MRI. In addition to his clinical training, he completed a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, at the University of Alberta, with a focus on development of novel cardiovascular MRI techniques. His subsequent research has been published in numerous journals, and continues to establish collaborative efforts in the cardiovascular MRI community.

 

As an educator, Dr. Pagano is currently an Assistant Professor at the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (Division of Cardiology). He takes part in the University’s Pediatrics and Pediatric Cardiology Mentorship Programs, where he works with resident mentees as they begin their pediatric careers. He was recently awarded the Dr. Jeffrey Smallhorn Teaching Award (2022) in recognition of his dedication to resident teaching.
