Dr. Joseph Atallah is a Cardiologist and Medical Director for cardiac outpatient services at the Stollery. He graduated from McGill University with a medical degree before completing a Residency in general pediatrics at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Dr. Atallah then went on to complete a Pediatric Cardiology Fellowship at Stollery Children’s Hospital, as well as a Pediatric and Adult Congenital Interventional Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Boston.
Dr. Atallah has held several senior leadership positions, including Medical Director for Pediatric and Congenital Electrophysiology with Alberta Health Services. In addition to clinical activities, he is an active educator who works with medical students at the University of Alberta. He is currently an Associate Professor with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, and is cross-appointed to the School of Public Health. Dr. Atallah has received numerous awards for his teaching efforts, including the Annual Excellence in Teaching Division Award in Undergraduate Medical Education from the University of Alberta (2020).
Dr. Atallah’s research interests include inherited arrhythmias, risk stratification and prevention for sudden cardiac death, novel pacemaker/defibrillator implantation, and neurodevelopmental and postoperative outcomes for complex congenital heart disease. His clinical interests include inherited arrhythmia disorders, interventional electrophysiology procedures, and the surgical implantation and management of pacemakers and defibrillators.
