Dr. Angela McBrien

Dr. Angela McBrien joined the Stollery Children’s Hospital as a Pediatric Cardiologist in 2016. She completed her medical training (both MD and postgraduate) at the Queen’s University of Belfast in Ireland before continuing her education at the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

Throughout her career, Dr. McBrien has specialized in fetal and postnatal echocardiography. She is the current Director of the Stollery Fetal and Neonatal Cardiology Program, and previously worked as a Consultant Fetal and Pediatric Cardiologist and Clinical Lead for Fetal Cardiology at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, England.

Dr. McBrien also works as an Associate Professor at the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, where she helps students prepare for future careers in medicine. She is involved with numerous national and international professional associations, including the Canadian Pediatric Cardiology Association, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society and the Fetal Heart Society. As an active member of the WCCHN community, Dr. McBrien co-chairs WCCHN’s Fetal Echo clinical review videoconference series.

Outside of professional life, Dr. McBrien enjoys playing the piano and ballet. She is a long-time sporting enthusiast who has completed nine full marathons as a leisure runner (with plenty more on the way).
