Dr. Steven Rathgeber

Dr. Steven Rathgeber is a Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist at BC Children’s Hospital. He obtained his Medical Degree from the University of British Columbia, and completed subsequent Residency and Fellowship training at BC Children’s and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto.

Coming into Medicine with a background in chemistry, Dr. Rathgeber holds expertise in the areas of long-term systemic complications associated with Fontan Palliation for Single Ventricle patients. This has helped him to develop a multidisciplinary pathway for comprehensive surveillance of Fontan patients throughout childhood and adolescence. This project has not only improved quality of care for patients, but also received numerous awards including the annual ITCC Award for Cardiovascular Research Excellence in Pediatric Cardiology, the UBC Pediatrics Resident Research Award in 2017, and the UBC Pediatrics Fellow Research Award in 2019.

Dr. Rathgeber also played a key role in BC Children’s enrollment in the ACC IMPACT Registry (a project undertaken in collaboration with WCCHN). This invites the opportunity for benchmarking clinical outcomes against a collection of international peers, opening doors to further quality improvement in care delivery.
