Dr. Yashu Coe earned his medical degrees (MBBS, MD) from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the U.K. He went on to receive additional training at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Killingbeck & Harefield Regional Cardiothoracic Centres in England, Birmingham Children’s Hospital in England and the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto where he was also a Canadian Heart Foundation Research Fellow. He has been a member of the Congenital Cardiology team at the University of Alberta since 1985 and was also a Clinical Investigator with the Alberta Medical Heritage Medical Research Foundation for 10 years. He pioneered stenting the ductus arteriosus used internationally, and invented several diagnostic & interventional devices.
Drawing on his expertise, Dr. Coe has been actively involved in advisory groups (in Canada and abroad) throughout his career. He is a past member of the Canadian Pediatric Pulmonary Hypertension Advisory Board and formerly served on the Erlangen Pediatric Cardiology Advisory Group (Siemens Medical Group). He is also a consultant for Medtronic Inc. and NuMED Inc. USA.
Dr. Coe’s clinical experience includes General Pediatric Cardiology, Interventional Congenital Cardiology, and Pediatric Heart Transplant. An active medical educator, Dr. Coe works with trainees at the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry receiving awards for excellence in undergraduate and pediatric cardiology teaching. He received an Achievement Award at the 2025 Canadian Cardiovascular Congress. He has been a Professor within the Department of Pediatrics for over 20 years.
