Dr. George Slim is an interventional and general pediatric cardiologist in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics and Stollery Cardiac Program. He completed his medical education and internship at the University of Alexandria in Egypt. Dr. Slim then pursued postgraduate training at the University of Alberta, completing his pediatric residency, core pediatric cardiology training, and a pediatric cardiac interventional fellowship. To further specialize, he completed elective training in pediatric interventional cardiology at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto and in diagnostic and interventional lymphatic disorders at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Active in both research and education, Dr. Slim received the 2025 Dr. Charles S. Kleinman Best Abstract Award from the Pediatric Interventional Cardiology Society for his work on coronary allograft vasculopathy in pediatric heart transplant recipients. He was also honoured with the Canadian Cardiovascular Society’s Dr. Charles Kerr Award in 2023, which recognizes a commitment to patient-centered care. Dr. Slim has served as a leader in medical education and advocacy, including roles as Lead Resident in Pediatric Cardiology and Resident Lead for the inaugural Western Canadian Fontan Family Camp. Looking forward, he aims to develop a Western Canadian lymphatics program to offer advanced diagnostic and minimally invasive therapies for children with complex cardiac conditions.
